The propagation method of cuttings of barberry and the specific time of cutting propagation

The method of cutting barberry mainly pays attention to the time, substrate selection, branch selection, and finally cutting branches, because barberry likes a warm environment and grows faster when the temperature is above fifteen degrees.

Generally, it is best to choose April to June for cuttings. Let the soil air out before cuttings. In the spring, choose disease-free, yellow-leafed, and sturdy branches with three to four leaves for cuttings.

Cutting propagation

(1) Time : It is recommended to plant cuttings of Erysimum aviculare between April and June. During this period, the metabolism of Erysimum aviculare is relatively strong and the temperature is suitable, so it is easy for the cuttings to grow roots and survive after being inserted.

(2) Method: First, you can cut off the branches with better growth from the healthy mature plants, carefully cut off the leaves in the lower half, and pay attention to cutting the bottom of the cut barberry branches into an oblique shape, which is conducive to rooting. Then use disinfectant to sterilize the branches, and then take them out and place them in a cool place to dry.

Seed propagation

(1) Time: The best time to sow the barberry is from March to April. The temperature is relatively mild and there is no extreme weather. It is just in time for the temperature to rise in spring, which is very beneficial for seed germination. In summer, the temperature is very hot and the seedlings are easily killed by heat after germination. In winter, the temperature is very cold and the seeds cannot germinate after being buried.

(2) Method: Choose seeds that are plump, not shriveled, and free of diseases and insect pests. Ensure that they have good vitality to facilitate their survival. As for the soil quality, it needs to be breathable and have normal drainage. You can use a mixture of leaf mold, garden soil, and yellow sand. This will increase the possibility of seed survival. You can also use a mixture of peat soil, expanded clay, and perlite, which will also have a better effect.

Propagation by division

(1) Time: The thorny plum is usually planted before the buds sprout in spring.

(2) Method: When dividing the plant, first prune the branches heavily, split the roots and plant them. You can bring some soil with you when transplanting. Then strengthen the management of fertilization and watering. After flowering, prune the old branches again to facilitate the growth of new branches.
