Date trees need to be shaped and pruned regularly. By pruning and removing dense branches and changing the direction of branches, the density of various branches can be made appropriate, ventilation and light transmission can be achieved, the date tree's light-loving requirements can be met, and photosynthesis can be enhanced. In addition, pruning can also improve the fruit setting ability, increase the yield of jujube trees, improve the quality of jujubes, and effectively regulate the contradiction between nutritional growth and fruiting, so as to achieve the goal of early fruiting, good quality and high yield of jujube trees, thereby maintaining higher economic benefits. Date tree pruning timeThe pruning time of jujube trees is divided into two seasons, winter pruning and summer pruning . Winter pruning is generally carried out during the dormant period , and the best time for pruning is in early spring. Summer pruning in the north is generally carried out from May to June. In the southern regions, it can be done earlier, but no matter which method is used, the main pruning methods for jujube trees include thinning branches, pinching back, pruning, bud removal, and pinching. Jujube tree pruning method1. Pruning young trees After planting a jujube tree, the main trunk should be determined first. Generally, the trunk should be determined 70 cm from the ground. The side branches within the trunk should be removed in time, and a part of the branches should be left on the upper part, about 4 to 5 branches. The top of the trunk should be cut off to promote the growth of new branches to become the main branches. The side branches can also be shortened. This will allow the plant to grow more vigorously, and it needs to be shaped afterwards. Generally, the main branches are shortened to 50 cm, the secondary branches are pinched, the excess branches are removed, and the branches are staggered. 2. Pruning during the fruiting period The fruiting jujube tree will have a fuller crown and many branches, so the old branches can be cut short to promote new branches, and strong new shoots can be selected for retention. This can ensure the amount of fruit. If the crown is too large and dense and airtight, some weak branches, drooping branches, interlaced branches, and internally staggered branches should be removed to ensure a good tree shape and reduce nutrient consumption. |
