What does lavender look like? Introduction and characteristics of lavender

1. Morphological characteristics

Lavender is a semi-shrub with hairs on its branches. Its leaves are linear, 3-5 cm long, 0.3-0.5 cm wide, and have white hairs on the surface. The flowers are in cymes, usually with 6-10 flowers, and are blue-purple in color. The corolla is bilobed, with the upper lip having two lobes and the lower lip having three lobes. It usually blooms in June, and the whole plant is fragrant, with the leaves and flowers being particularly fragrant.

2. Growth habits

Lavender is highly adaptable and can tolerate both high and low temperatures, but it grows better in warm environments. It does not require much water. Relatively sufficient water is needed during the greening and budding periods, and less water is needed during the flowering and dormant periods. Normally, it is necessary to ensure sufficient light. If it is too dark, the plant will easily develop poorly. In addition, it is mostly planted in places with deep soil and prefers loose and breathable soil.

3. Breeding Methods

1. Seed propagation: Lavender is generally sown in April. Before planting, it must be soaked in warm water and then placed on a wet paper towel to keep warm and moist for germination. After germination, prepare loose and fertile soil, sow the seeds in it, cover with a layer of fine soil, and water thoroughly once. Do not expose the seeds to light immediately after sowing. Wait until seedlings grow before increasing the light.

2. Cutting propagation: The main propagation method used for lavender. Compared with sowing, the advantage of cutting is that it can maintain the quality of the mother plant and no mutation will occur. The time for cuttings is mostly in spring and autumn. Select 5-10 cm long young branches, cut off the leaves at the bottom, soak them in rooting water, and cut them into the substrate. The substrate is generally prepared with river sand and coconut bran in a ratio of 2:1. After cutting, keep good ventilation and pay attention to keeping the soil moist.
