How to grow Edo purple

Growth habit

Edo Purple is a succulent plant of the genus Kalanchoe in the Crassulaceae family, native to Africa. It likes a warm, semi-shady, dry and sunny growing environment. It is drought-resistant but not cold-resistant. It likes warmth, and the best growth temperature is approximately between 18℃-23℃. It will not survive if the temperature drops below 10℃ in winter.

Maintenance Tips

illumination

Edo Purple likes a growing environment with plenty of sunlight and can tolerate partial shade. In spring, autumn and winter, Edo Purple must receive sufficient light, and in hot summer weather it must be properly shaded to cultivate plants with thick leaves, obvious white powder, and clear and obvious purple-brown spots.

Watering

During the peak growth period of Edo Purple, that is, spring and autumn, the soil in the pot should be kept moist but not waterlogged. During the high temperatures in summer, ventilation should be strengthened and watering should be carried out moderately to prevent the base of the stems and leaves from turning yellow and rotting due to excessive soil humidity.

Fertilization

Apply well-rotted thin liquid fertilizer or inorganic compound fertilizer once a month. Do not apply fertilizer too frequently or too much.

Repotting and pruning

Repot once every spring. The potting soil should be loose, fertile, sandy soil with good drainage and water retention properties.

Prune the plants to keep them in perfect shape.

Because Edo purple has a well-developed root system, a larger flower pot should be used for planting. Newly planted plants should be placed in a bright place without direct sunlight. There is no need to water them too much. Normal maintenance can be carried out after they resume growth.

Reproduction method

Generally, the cutting method is chosen in spring and autumn, and it can also be carried out in winter when the temperature is above 18℃.
