Can August melon be planted in the north? Planting climate conditions

Planting wax gourd in the north

Wax melon can be grown in the north. Although it is more common in the mountains and forests of the south and is a wild fruit, there is also a relatively small amount of artificial cultivation. The climate and altitude in the north may not be suitable for planting. However, wax melon is relatively drought-resistant and cold-resistant, and can be planted when the weather in the north is more suitable.

August melon growing area

In China, wax gourd is mainly distributed in Guizhou, Hunan, Anhui, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Guangxi, Sichuan, Fujian and other regions. Its wild resources are more abundant in mountain valleys and forest edge bushes.

Because August melon likes cool and humid places and has good cold resistance, it is suitable for planting in places with higher terrain, less prone to waterlogging, fertile and loose soil, and good lighting and ventilation conditions. Because it likes light and is afraid of waterlogging, it needs a lot of nutrients during its growth period, so planting it in such a place is more conducive to its growth.

Methods of Planting August Melon in the North

Before planting wax gourd, you must first choose land to apply base fertilizer, plant it in soil with deep soil layer, fertile soil, convenient drainage and irrigation, and then deep plowing and land preparation. Before that, you must first remove the weeds on the ground, clean up other impurities, and dig planting holes.

Then mix the fertilizer thoroughly with the fine soil in the planting hole, then select one-year-old seedlings or grafted sturdy wax gourd seedlings with many fibrous roots, build a shed, and finally transplant the wax gourd.
