Care and cultivation of white orchids

Care and cultivation of white orchids

White jasmine belongs to the Magnoliaceae family . It has lush green leaves and jade-white flowers. Its flowering period is long, from May to early October. Its flowers have a strong and pleasant fragrance, and many people plant them at home. Here is an introduction to the care and cultivation of white jasmine.

1. Soil

When growing white jasmine in potted plants at home, you should choose loose, breathable, slightly acidic soil rich in humus. White jasmine requires a soil pH value of 5.5-6.3. The roots of white jasmine are fleshy roots, which should not be too dry or too wet, so the drainage of the potting soil must be good. It cannot be cultivated with pure nutrient soil or mostly nutrient soil. Nutrient soil has good moisture retention and a long moisture retention time, which will cause the roots of the white jasmine to rot. It is best to use purple clay pots for planting white jasmine. Ceramic pots cannot be plated with porcelain, and clay pots and other pots with good air permeability are recommended.

2. Lighting

White jasmine is a positive flower that likes plenty of sunlight, but is also afraid of strong exposure to the sun in summer. Therefore, when cultivating it in the summer, you can provide some shade when the sun is strong at noon. The rest of the time, you can keep it in a sunny place.

3. Watering

White jasmine has fleshy roots and is not tolerant to drought or waterlogging. Water easily accumulates in the potting soil during the rainy season, causing the leaves to turn yellow. The correct way to water is to water thoroughly when the soil is dry. In summer and autumn, the weather is hot and the evaporation is large, so it is better to keep the potting soil slightly moist. Choose the cooler morning and evening as the time for watering, and spray water on the leaves. After winter, reduce the amount of watering and water once every 15 days.

4. Fertilization

White jasmine can be fertilized in the hot summer and cold winter. Fertilization can extend the flowering period of potted white jasmine and increase the number of flowering times. The white jasmine has a long flowering period and consumes a lot of nutrients, so it needs additional fertilizer . It can be fertilized once every half a month from April to September to promote and maintain flowering.

5. Temperature

White jasmine is not cold-resistant. Except for the southern China, it must be kept indoors in winter in other areas. The minimum indoor temperature should be kept above 5℃ and the soil in the pot should be kept moist so that it can safely overwinter.

6. Pruning

Pruning the top buds and shortening the parts will promote side branches, flower buds and flowering. Before placing white jasmine indoors, the dry, overgrown, diseased, and overcrowded branches should be cut off. When placed outdoors, you can remove the old leaves at the bottom of the branches as appropriate to promote the development of new branches.

7. Repotting

According to the size of the crown and age of the white jasmine, change to a suitable flowerpot. Water the surrounding areas of the pot the day before changing the pot to help the soil separate from the pot and take out the soil and the white jasmine together.
