How long does it take for Clematis cuttings to take root? The method and time for rooting in water

Rooting time of Clematis cuttings

The time for cuttings of Clematis can generally be chosen in spring, summer and autumn, but the best time for cuttings is in March and April, and the temperature must be maintained above 20 degrees Celsius.

Secondly, from August to September, the rainfall is relatively large and the humidity of the air will also increase. When the temperature and humidity are appropriate, the clematis branches will gradually begin to take root in about a month.

How to root Clematis cuttings

Clematis can be propagated by half water and half soil cuttings. When its roots grow to about 2-3 cm in the water, take it out and add four parts of peat and one part of perlite into the cup as a substrate.

But be sure to note that the final state is a thin paste of substrate and water. Then insert the rooted clematis back into the plastic cup. Don't worry about breaking the roots during the process of cutting back. After the cuttings are done, place it in a ventilated place and wait for the water in the cup to evaporate. Then you can see the clematis taking root.

Clematis cutting method

1. Prepare the substrate

When choosing a substrate, it is recommended to use a mixture of peat soil and river sand, which can ensure that it can absorb sufficient nutrients and is breathable and has strong drainage.

2. Pruning and cutting

Cut semi-mature branches from the plant, cut them from the middle part, remove all the leaves at the bottom, and only keep the leaves at the top. Soak the branches in rooting agent for a while, and then insert them obliquely into the substrate. As long as the buds appear, it will be fine. After cuttings, spray water to keep them moist so that the clematis can grow better.
