Diseases and prevention methods of air plants

Air plant sunburn

Sunscald often occurs when there is sufficient light. Due to improper operation, the water sprayed on the leaves is not dried in time. The water droplets act as a convex lens, burning the leaf surface below the water droplets, but it will not spread. Just pay attention to ventilation during routine maintenance and it will not cause serious harm.

Heart rot and root rot of air plants

These two are the most common diseases of air plants, and are also common diseases in home care of air plants.

Heart rot destroys the tender leaves at the growing point in the center of the plant, causing the tissue to soften and rot, and a moldy smell can be smelled. Eventually the leaves and roots of the entire plant will be separated. Root rot is characterized by brown to black decay in the root tips of affected plants, without the growth of lateral roots.

Excessively high temperatures lead to growth stagnation, poor ventilation, and high temperatures and humidity. During routine maintenance, pay attention to timely ventilation, do not water too much, and when spraying water, be careful not to choose water with high Ca or Na content. If the above two symptoms occur, more sun exposure and timely spraying of pesticides can effectively prevent the spread of the disease.

Air plant ring rot

The symptoms of ring rot are the appearance of many spots on the leaf surface, and the color changes from light to dark. The color of the spots changes from beige to light yellow to brown to gradually turn black, and the spots gradually extend from the center to the outer edge of the leaves.

When the disease occurs, if the spots are few and distributed on the outer edge of the leaves, you can cut off the diseased leaves, reduce the light time, pay attention to ventilation, and manage normally after recovery.
