How long does it take for Begonia cuttings to take root? When is the survival rate of cuttings higher?

Begonia cutting rooting time

Begonia has a wide adaptability to the environment, is cold-resistant and heat-resistant, and can grow all year round. Therefore, the time for cuttings is not limited. However, in order to ensure its survival, it is usually carried out in spring from April to May. When the temperature exceeds 20℃, the cuttings are easier to take root. Usually, begonia cuttings can take root in about 2 weeks.

Four-season Begonia rooting method

1. Before grafting Begonia, you should choose suitable cuttings, which can speed up the rooting process. Cut strong one- to two-year-old branches from plants with good growth conditions, and ensure that each branch has 3-4 nodes.

2. Before cutting begonias, you can use chopsticks to drill holes in the soil, then dip a little rooting powder at the bottom of the branches, and then insert them into the holes, compacting the surrounding soil. After the cuttings are completed, place them in a well-ventilated and cool place, maintain a good temperature, and promote rooting and germination of the branches.

Begonia cutting method

1. Cutting processing: For Begonia, you can choose thick branches without flower buds as cuttings. The length is generally about 5-6 cm, and it is best to have two buds on it. If there are too many leaves, you need to remove some of them to reduce transpiration and avoid affecting the rooting of the cuttings.

2. Preparation of potting soil: Begonia is suitable for growing in loose and breathable soil. If you prepare it yourself, you usually use a mixture of peat soil and perlite in a ratio of 3:1. In order to ensure that the cuttings will not be diseased or infested with insects, after the soil is prepared, it needs to be disinfected with carbendazim.

3. Carry out cuttings: Cut the bottom of the Begonia cuttings into a wedge shape and insert them into the prepared substrate. Spray water on the leaves regularly to keep them moist. At the same time, control the humidity of the substrate to avoid rotting. Keep the temperature at around 18-20℃ and it will take root soon.
