When is the best month to plant Lupin?

Which month is suitable for planting lupine?

The sowing time of lupine is divided into spring sowing and autumn sowing. Spring sowing is from February to April each year, and autumn sowing is from September to October each year. Generally speaking, September each year is the best time to sow lupine. The climate at this time is relatively mild and humid, which is suitable for the growth of lupine.

How to plant lupine

1. Choose the soil

The cultivation soil should be loose, breathable, and well-drained, which is conducive to the germination of lupine seeds. In addition, the soil should be exposed to the sun or sprayed with potassium permanganate solution for disinfection.

2. Seed soaking and germination

Before sowing, soak the lupine seeds in clean water for about 10 hours. After the seeds have absorbed enough water, take them out and wrap them in wet cotton cloth, and place the seeds in an environment with a temperature of 25°C to germinate.

3. Sowing

Sow the germinated seeds on the soil surface, making sure to sow them evenly. Then cover the seeds with about 2 cm thick soil. Note that the soil should not be too thick, otherwise it will be detrimental to the germination of lupine seeds.

4. Transplanting

After the lupine has gone through a seedling stage of about 30 days and its leaves are fully expanded, they can be transplanted and planted. When transplanting, care should be taken to retain the original soil to promote rooting and growth of the seedlings.

Key points for planting lupine

1. Before planting, you should select seeds with good quality and full grains and place them in clean warm water for germination, which will help speed up the germination and rooting of lupine seeds.

2. Lupine seeds are relatively large, so it is best to use the spot sowing method when planting, placing 2-3 seeds in each planting hole.

3. Lupine is prone to root rot, rust and powdery mildew in a climate of high temperature and high humidity. Therefore, avoid excessive density when planting and pay attention to enhancing the permeability of the environment.
