Garlic Planting and Harvesting Time

Garlic Planting and Harvesting Time

Garlic planting time

The time for planting garlic is different in different regions. In the southern region, it is usually sown around September and October in autumn. In the low-temperature areas in the north, it is best to choose spring sowing, and the specific time is around February to April.

Garlic Harvest Time

The garlic growth cycle is 8 months. It is usually sown around October in autumn and harvested in June of the following year. The harvest period may vary slightly due to climatic conditions and other reasons, but it is generally harvested when the garlic leaves wither in May or June.

Key points for high-yield garlic planting

1. Select seeds

The size of garlic seeds affects the yield. The larger the garlic cloves, the more nutrients they contain. The seedlings that grow will have well-developed root systems and large garlic heads. Therefore, you should choose medium-sized, relatively smooth garlic grains without disease and insect spots as seeds. They should be dried in the sun for two days before sowing to increase the germination rate.

2. Planting method

Plant the garlic cloves into the soil with the garlic heads facing downwards, about three to five centimeters deep, and cover them with a layer of soil. When planting, the spacing between plants should be controlled at five centimeters, and the soil should be watered sufficiently so that the garlic seedlings can grow faster.

3. Water and fertilizer management

When planting garlic, be sure to keep the soil moist, water it every two days, and then cover it with a layer of film. After 7 days, when the garlic seedlings grow out, remove the film so that they can receive more sunlight. When the garlic seedlings grow to 5 cm, apply decomposed organic fertilizer and combine it with watering.
