Blueberry cutting time and method

Blueberry cutting time and method

Blueberry cutting time

The best time for blueberry cuttings is from February to April every spring. Cuttings can be carried out when the blueberry trees begin to sprout. The temperature will gradually rise in spring. The survival rate of cuttings is the highest at this time, and the management of the plants in the later stage is more convenient.

Blueberry cutting method

1. Choose branches

Choose strong, pest-free branches with buds on the blueberry mother plant as cuttings. When pruning, it is recommended to choose semi-lignified branches in the middle and lower parts of the branches, and the length should be between 20 cm and 30 cm.

2. Processing branches

Cut the bottom of the blueberry branch diagonally to increase the nutrient absorption area, then remove the leaves on the lower half, leaving 2-3 leaves on the upper half, and soak the branches in potassium permanganate solution for about 10 minutes.

3. Cutting method

Insert the blueberry cuttings vertically into the substrate with the top buds exposed, then spray water appropriately. If you want to plant multiple cuttings, keep a distance of more than 5 cm between the cuttings to avoid the cuttings being too dense and causing poor development.

Blueberry cutting maintenance

After blueberry cuttings, they should be kept moist, but waterlogging should be avoided. Place them in a place without direct sunlight for a week. After the blueberry branches take root, move them to sufficient sunlight for additional light.
