How to prune rubber trees? Methods and diagrams of pruning branches and leaves

Rubber tree pruning time

Rubber trees need to be pruned several times a year. The best time to prune in the Yellow River basin is from early to mid-May each year, and in the Yangtze River region it can be done as early as April. This is beneficial to the development of the rubber tree. Proper pruning can control the height of the rubber tree and make it more beautiful.

Rubber tree pruning method

1. Bud removal and branch pruning

In the process of pruning rubber trees, the most important thing is to remove buds and prune branches, cut off the excess buds, and only keep 3 to 4 buds at the top. Then, top and prune the rubber trees with vigorous branches to keep them in good tree shape.

2. Summer pruning

It is suitable to prune the rubber tree to control its shape in summer. At this time, the excess side branches of the rubber tree should be pruned. Too strong branches will cause excessive nutrient consumption. The strong branches should also be cut off, leaving the weaker branches to allow them to grow.

3. Heavy pruning in winter

In addition to summer pruning, rubber trees also need heavy pruning in winter. For vigorously growing rubber trees, heavy pruning is required to cut off the vigorously growing branches to help them better survive the winter. Weaker, diseased, and old branches should also be pruned, leaving healthy branches to grow normally.

4. Pruning and shaping

In addition to winter pruning and summer pruning, rubber trees also need timely pruning during daily maintenance to keep the rubber trees in a good tree shape. Before pruning, you can design a beautiful shape, and then cut off the branches that do not match the shape to make it more ornamental.
