How to plant chive seeds

How to plant chive seeds

Leek seed planting time

Leek seeds can be planted in spring, summer and autumn. It is better to plant early rather than late in spring. The sowing amount in summer should be about one-third larger than that in spring. The sowing amount in autumn should be twice that in spring. Autumn and spring are the main planting seasons, which are also the seasons with the highest yield.

How to plant chive seeds

1. Select the seed

When planting leeks, generally choose plump, high-yield seeds, then put them in clean water with nutrient solution, leave them for 3 to 5 days, maintain a good ventilation environment, and it is best to place them in a shaded place. They will germinate in about 5 days.

2. Soil preparation

The soil for growing leeks must ensure water permeability. If you prepare it yourself, you can mix humus, garden soil, pond mud, and fine sand, then apply an appropriate amount of organic fertilizer and pour in an appropriate amount of water.

3. Cultivation and planting

Then scatter the germinated seeds into the soil one by one. You can also plant them too densely and cover them with a thin layer of soil. After planting, gently compact them and add water in time to keep the soil moist.

4. Seedling management

When the seedlings are taller than 5 cm, you should start to reduce watering. When they grow to 10 cm, it is best to apply a small amount of mature manure solution. If they are taller than 15 cm, you should control watering and pull out the weeds next to the plants from time to time.

Daily management precautions for leeks

Generally, leek needs to be fertilized more frequently during its growth period. To promote annual growth, it is best to apply a dilute nitrogen fertilizer solution every 20-25 days. When the new leaves of leek emerge from the soil, it is best to keep the soil moist and observe the soil conditions to loosen the soil.
