When is the best time to graft fig trees?

Fig tree cutting time

The environment and climate for fig tree cuttings are very important. It is best to do cuttings when the figs just sprout in early spring when the daytime temperature is around 20℃. When doing cuttings in summer, you can choose rough and hard green branches for cuttings.

Fig tree cutting method

Choose branches and leaves: From a healthy fig tree, select 1-3 year old, thick, well-growing branches that have not sprouted, and cut them into 30-50 cm long cuttings.

Prepare the soil: The flowerpot should have a certain depth, and the soil should be loose, fertile and breathable. You can also add some leaf mold and larger gravel.

Prepare for cuttings: insert the processed cuttings obliquely into two-thirds of the soil, leaving the rest exposed. Compact the soil and water to keep it moist. The cuttings will take root about one month after cuttings.

Fig cuttings precautions

After the fig tree is grafted, the water supply should be strengthened, and the soil should not be allowed to dry out. Fertilizer should be applied with some organic fertilizer such as chicken manure. If the base fertilizer is sufficient and a certain amount of light is maintained, it will grow better. In addition, in the later stage of rooting, the cuttings will grow many long hair roots, and the soil moisture should be increased at this time.
