How to propagate corals: cuttings and sowing propagation methods

Coral reproduction method

Commonly used propagation methods for corals include sowing and cutting. It is a plant that likes a warm environment and is suitable for propagation in spring and autumn. The temperature is high in summer and it is difficult to take root. The temperature is low in winter and it is easy to suffer frost damage.

Common coral reproduction methods

1. Coral cutting propagation

Coral is suitable for cuttings in spring and autumn. Select healthy and plump fleshy stems, place them in a ventilated place to dry for 1-2 days, and choose sandy soil for cuttings. After cuttings, keep the soil moist, but not too wet, so that new roots will sprout soon.

2. Coral seeding and propagation

Coral seeds come in different sizes, and it is best to choose smaller seeds. Prepare a suitable flowerpot, fill it with loose, fertile, slightly acidic soil, dip a toothpick in water, stick the seeds on the surface of the substrate, and then cover them with a thin layer of soil. Then put the seeding flowerpot into the water. The depth of the water should be half the height of the flowerpot.

After the corals are sown, the temperature should be controlled between 20-30 degrees. If it is lower than 20 degrees, the coral seeds will have difficulty taking root. If it is higher than 30 degrees, the seeds will be infected by bacteria and rot. The higher the temperature, the greater the proportion of rot, and they will not grow and germinate and cannot survive.
