Cultivation techniques and precautions of Brazilian wood

The rubber tree is a common indoor foliage plant. With its unique shape, rich leaf color and strong adaptability, it has become a classic choice among indoor plants. It not only beautifies the environment, but also purifies the air, making it an ideal home and office plant. Learn the breeding techniques and precautions below.

1. Lighting management

The rubber tree likes light but is shade-tolerant. It can be placed in a sunny place in spring, autumn and winter to receive sufficient scattered light. It needs to be shaded in summer to avoid direct sunlight and prevent leaf burns. If placed in the shade for a long time, the leaves will turn yellow due to lack of photosynthesis.

2. Temperature control

The suitable temperature for the growth of rubber tree is 20-30℃. The room temperature needs to be kept above 10℃ in winter and avoid being lower than 5℃, otherwise frost damage will occur.

3. Soil selection

Suitable for loose, breathable, well-drained and humus-rich acidic soil. You can use a mixture of peat soil, leaf mold, garden soil and perlite .

4. Watering method

The rubber tree is drought-tolerant but not water-tolerant. The soil in the pot needs to be kept moist during the growing season, but waterlogging should be avoided. In spring and summer, water the plant every 2-3 days, and reduce the frequency of watering in winter.

5. Fertilization management

During the growing season (May-October), apply thin liquid fertilizer every 15-30 days, or apply compound fertilizer 1-2 times a month. Golden or silver varieties should be fertilized with more phosphorus and potassium and less nitrogen fertilizer to prevent excessive growth.

6. Pruning and shaping

Prune dead branches and leaves in time during the growing season to maintain a beautiful plant shape and avoid nutrient waste. If the plant is too tall or the lower leaves fall off, you can prune it appropriately to promote the growth of new shoots.

In addition, insufficient air humidity, water accumulation in the substrate, excessive fertilization or excessive light may all cause leaf burns. It can be prevented by increasing air humidity, controlling watering, fertilizing properly and providing shade. In winter, the rubber tree needs to be moved to a warm place indoors to avoid frostbite.
