Fennel seedling planting time and method

Fennel seedling planting time and method

Fennel seedling planting time

Fennel seedlings are suitable for planting in spring and autumn, specifically in March-April in spring, and August-September in autumn. The warm climate is very helpful for seed germination. Do not plant them in hot summer and cold winter.

Fennel seedling planting method

1. Seed selection

For fennel seeds, choose plump, healthy and recent seeds. Such seeds have a higher success rate in germination. To speed up the germination, soak them in warm water for about 12 hours, then wrap them with gauze and place them in an environment of about 20 degrees to germinate. After the seeds show white buds, you can start preparing for sowing.

2. Apply basal fertilizer to the soil

Fennel is suitable for planting in loose, fertile, well-drained sandy soil. Only this kind of soil can allow fennel to grow luxuriantly. Fennel is a fertilizer-loving plant. Some base fertilizer can be applied before planting. It is best to mix manure with triple compound fertilizer, so that the nutrients are more comprehensive and fennel can grow more effectively.

3. Planting seeds

After applying base fertilizer, deep plowing and leveling of the soil are required. After that, the seeds are sown in the soil and covered with a thin layer of soil. If planted in areas with heavy rainfall, high ridges should be built and the heavily sown fennel seedlings should be covered with a film.

Precautions for planting fennel seedlings

After the fennel seedlings emerge and grow true leaves, you can start thinning them out. First remove the weeds around them, then thin out the plants at a distance of about 4 cm. If there are areas where fennel seedlings are scarce, you must replenish them in time.
