Motherwort planting time and method

Motherwort planting time and method

Motherwort planting time

Early-maturing motherwort can be planted in spring, summer and autumn, while winter motherwort must be sown in autumn. The spring sowing time is from February to March, and the summer sowing time is after the wheat harvest in Grain in Ear. The autumn sowing time is from late September to early October.

How to plant motherwort

1. Land preparation

Motherwort is suitable for planting in loose, fertile, well-drained soil. Before sowing, prepare the land and apply compost or well-rotted manure as base fertilizer. After application, plow and rake the land and level it. Select fresh seeds with a high germination rate for sowing.

2. Planting

There are three methods for sowing motherwort: row sowing, hole sowing and broadcast sowing. Row sowing is mostly used in flat areas, while hole sowing is mostly used on sloping land. Broadcast sowing is inconvenient to manage and is rarely used. For row sowing, dig horizontal furrows in the ridges, 4 to 7 cm deep, and the bottom of the furrow should be flat. For hole sowing, dig holes with a row spacing of about 25 cm. The hole diameter is about 10 cm, and the depth is 3 to 7 cm. The bottom of the hole should be flat.

3. Field management

The height of motherwort seedlings can be thinned out when they are about 5 cm. If there is a shortage of seedlings, they should be transplanted in time. When the seedlings grow to about 40 cm, they should be weeded and fertilized with farmyard manure and urea water.

Motherwort Planting Precautions

1. When applying topdressing to motherwort, it should be done together with watering. Avoid using too concentrated fertilizer to avoid hurting the seedlings. The fertilizer also needs to be diluted with water. In addition, motherwort cannot tolerate waterlogging environments. When the rain is concentrated in the rainy season, waterlogging should be prevented and attention should be paid to timely drainage.

2. Motherwort likes warm and humid climate and sunny environment. It should be provided with sufficient light at ordinary times and should not be left in the dark. It is not demanding on soil and can be planted in general soil and barren mountain slopes. Loose and fertile soil is preferred.
