Potato planting time and method

Potato planting time

There are many areas in my country where sweet potatoes are grown, and the planting time varies in each place. Generally speaking, it is suitable for planting in spring. March and April each year are the best time to plant sweet potatoes.

How to plant potato

1. Seed potato selection

Before planting yams, you need to choose suitable seed potatoes. Usually, small potatoes grown on the vines are used as seedlings. Of course, underground tubers can also be used as seed potatoes. Cut them into small pieces in advance, weighing between 50-100 grams.

2. Land preparation and ridge making

The potato is suitable for planting in loose, well-breeding soil, which can promote the expansion and growth of the tubers. The soil can be deep-turned in advance, and then ridges can be made for planting. It can be planted in a single row with a ridge width of 60 cm, and a ridge height and ridge distance of 30 cm. It can also be planted in double rows with a ridge width of 1.2 meters, a ridge height and ridge distance of 30 cm, and the ridge length should not exceed 10 meters.

3. Planting treatment

After the soil and seed potatoes are prepared, the seed potatoes can be planted in loose soil, covered with a layer of soil, and then watered to keep the soil slightly moist. It is best to provide a semi-shaded, well-ventilated environment.

Things to note when planting potato

After the potato is planted, the soil needs to be protected from weeds. At this time, you can spray some herbicides to inhibit the growth of weeds, or use rice straw to cover the soil.

Once the soil surface is shielded from light, it is difficult for weeds to grow, and rice straw becomes a very good organic fertilizer after natural decomposition. It can be said that it can both prevent weeds and serve as organic fertilizer, killing two birds with one stone.
