When and how to plant cabbage

Cabbage planting time

Cabbage prefers a warm environment and is usually planted in spring and autumn, specifically in April in spring and September in autumn. It is best to do it in a clear afternoon or on a cloudy day.

How to grow cabbage

1. Seed selection and soaking

There are many varieties of cabbage. You can choose high-quality seeds such as flat cabbage and round cabbage for planting. Soak them in warm water of 50-55 degrees in advance, and then soak them in normal temperature water for 3-4 hours. After soaking, keep the seeds moisturized and germinated at 20-25 degrees. After 20% of the seeds turn white, they can be sown.

2. Land preparation

Cabbage has a wide adaptability to soil, but it cannot be planted on land that has been cropped continuously, as blight is very likely to occur. When preparing the land, clear away the debris in the field, turn the soil as deep as possible, then expose it to the sun for a few days, apply some farmyard manure and wood ash, and wait for sowing.

3. Thinning out seedlings

Sow the prepared cabbage seeds on the soil at a certain distance, then cover the seeds and wait for them to germinate, or raise the seedlings on the seedbed and then transplant them. When sowing and raising seedlings, you can moisten the soil, then evenly spread the seeds on the seedbed, cover them with a thin layer of soil, and transplant them when they grow to 6-8 cm.

Cabbage planting precautions

After planting cabbage, keep the soil moist and water it every three to five days. Check the growth of the seedlings every 10 days or so, fill in the gaps, and then wait until the seedlings are officially alive. In order to make the field look neat, the first inter-row cultivation and weeding is required, which can be carried out together with fertilization to reduce nutrient consumption.
