Lettuce planting time and method

Lettuce planting time

Lettuce prefers a cool environment and is usually sown in spring and autumn. The planting time in spring is from February to April, and it can be harvested in May and June. The planting time in autumn is in late August, and it can be harvested in September and October.

Lettuce Planting Method

1. Land preparation

Before planting lettuce, the soil must be renovated to ensure that the land is loose and has a certain degree of fertility. You can apply some decomposed farmyard manure to improve the fertility of the land. The treated land must also be watered thoroughly. If it is planted in potted plants, you need to prepare breathable, permeable, and fertile soil, and pots of appropriate size.

2. Planting seeds in the soil

Lettuce seeds do not need to be germinated. Just sprinkle them evenly on the soil surface, then cover them with a thin layer of soil and gently compact them with your hands. Seeds need water to germinate. After planting, spray water with a spray bottle to make the soil slightly moist. Note that you cannot water too much, otherwise the seeds will easily be washed out.

3. Post-maintenance

Lettuce seeds like light, so they need to be exposed to the sun after sowing. Potted plants should be moved to a well-lit place and exposed to more light. When the soil turns white, water it in time. Just water it thoroughly each time. If managed properly, they will sprout soon.

Lettuce planting precautions

About 5 days after sowing lettuce, you can apply nitrogen fertilizer to meet the growth needs of lettuce. After it grows 3 true leaves, you can thin it out and pull out the too weak seedlings to give it enough growth space. The pulled out seedlings can be eaten directly or transplanted and replanted. After the lettuce is mature, it should be harvested in time.
