Can Japanese Begonia be hydroponically cultivated?

Japanese crabapple belongs to the genus Chaenomeles of the subfamily Apple of the family Rosaceae. It is a beautiful flowering and fruiting plant. In Japan, it is usually cultivated by grafting, but it can also be grown hydroponically. However, compared to soil cultivation, the flowers of Japanese crabapples grown hydroponically are brighter.

Methods and key points of hydroponic cultivation of Japanese begonia

1. When growing Japanese begonias in water, choose a suitable glass bottle as a maintenance container according to the size of the plant. A container that is too large or too small will affect the hydroponic growth of the begonia.

2. The branches need to be processed before hydroponics. When the crabapple is in bloom, pick the flowering and disinfected branches for hydroponics.

3. After the Japanese crabapple branches are disinfected, they can be inserted into water and wait for rooting.

4. You can also dig the crabapple out of the potting soil, then clean the soil on the roots, trim the old roots, and then place it in a ventilated and cool place to dry and disinfect it, and then you can put it in water to keep it alive.

Precautions for growing Japanese begonia in water

1. For hydroponics of Japanese begonia, you need to select a sturdy branch, preferably with several buds. It is easier for it to survive after hydroponics, and woody branches are easier to root and survive.

2. When caring for the crabapple branches, it is best to keep them in a place with sufficient light, but be aware that you need to change the water for the crabapple branches every week. If the temperature is too low, you need to reduce the frequency of water changes. Also, before the hydroponic branches take root, there is no need to add nutrient solution to the water container. Wait until they take root before adding nutrient solution.
