Don’t panic when succulents encounter insects. I will teach you one trick to kill all the insects!

Common scale insect

Friends who grow succulents must have seen scale insects. Scale insects are fat and white, and seem to have small hairs on their bodies, which looks particularly disgusting. Scale insects mainly adhere to the leaves and stems of succulents. They are very easy to find and also easy to spread.

Treatment method:

1. For scale insects that are present in small numbers, we can kill them with toothpicks or pick them out with tweezers. Be sure to clean the leaves of the succulents after treatment to prevent the venom left by scale insects from causing damage to the succulents.

2. When there are too many scale insects, we can use pesticides to spray. Dilute the Flower Protector with water at a ratio of 1:200 and spray it on the affected area about once a week. After spraying the medicine, please place it in a cool and ventilated place for 4 to 5 days before moving it to a bright place.

3. If there are children or pregnant women at home and you don’t want to use any medicine, you can put the succulents under running water, then use a magnifying glass and a needle to kill them one by one, and then clean them.

Root mealybugs

Root mealybugs are highly contagious and generally live in the soil, making them difficult to detect. Usually we can only discover it when we change the pot and turn the soil.

Treatment method:

1. If you find root mealybugs when repotting, you need to discard the original soil immediately or expose the soil outdoors for a few months before using it.

2. Clean all the roots of the plants and then trim them simply. Soak it in clean water for half an hour, then place it in a ventilated place to dry for 1-2 days, and put it back in the pot after it is completely dry. Note that the original flower pot should be discarded or cleaned before reuse.

3. If you think the above methods are too troublesome, we can also use medication. At present, the most effective drugs include Aphidicide, Suposha, and Furadan. It is worth noting that these drugs can only kill insects but not their eggs. So if you need to take medicine, you must use it continuously.

aphid

Aphids, I guess many succulent lovers have also discovered them. Aphids are small and somewhat transparent, and are a common pest of succulent plants.

Treatment method:

1. When the number of aphids is small, they can be removed manually. For example, use a toothpick to absorb it, or use tweezers to remove it.

2. If there are a large number of aphids, you can rinse the entire succulent plant underwater and then disinfect it. At the same time, sterilize the soil, or replace the soil directly.

3. We can also choose to spray with drugs. Commonly used drugs to deal with aphids include German Bayer's imidacloprid or 1500 times diluted 80% DDT emulsion.

Red Spider

Red spiders use their mouthparts to suck the juice from the tender stems and leaves of succulent plants. The affected stems and leaves develop yellow-brown spots or turn yellow and fall off. The spots remain permanent and do not fade.

Treatment method:

1. When you find red spider mites on succulent plants, you should first increase ventilation and take low-temperature measures. If there are not many red spider mites, you can kill them with a toothpick or needle, and then wash the succulents.

2. If there are many red spider mites and you don't want to use any medicine, you can spray a detergent solution with the ratio of detergent to water being 1:250 or spray a soap solution with the ratio of soap to water being 1:50.

3. Similarly, we can also spray medicine on succulents. It is very effective to spray red spider mites with 1000-1500 times diluted 40% trichlorodicofol emulsifiable concentrate.
