When is the best time to repot the dragon blood tree? What are the precautions for repotting?

Time to repot dragon blood tree

The Dracaena needs to be repotted. Usually, after 2 to 3 years of care, it is necessary to repot and change the soil. This will make the Dracaena grow more vigorously. The time to repot is in spring, and the specific time should be around April.

How to repot a dragon blood tree

1. Prepare the soil

Prepare suitable flower pots according to the growth of the dragon blood tree. If you don’t want the leaves to droop, use a taller flower pot. It likes loose, fertile, well-drained sandy soil. You can use sandy soil and add appropriate amount of humus to make nutrient soil.

2. Remove the pot and prune

Take the Dracaena out of its original pot and clean the soil around the roots. The roots may rot due to improper maintenance. Use scissors to cut them off after removing them from the pot. Do not accidentally damage the healthy roots to avoid affecting later growth.

3. Plant in pots

Place a layer of tiles at the bottom of the new flowerpot and put the prepared soil in. Then plant the treated plants and compact them while covering them with soil, but do not compact the soil on the surface too tightly. Place the plant in a cool place for a while after repotting it. Do not expose it to strong sunlight. Wait until it resumes normal growth before gradually exposing it to sunlight.

Precautions for repotting Dracaena

Be careful when repotting the Dracaena so as not to damage the root system, especially the taproot. The new nutrient soil should be prepared in the same way as the original soil as much as possible so that it can adapt to the pot faster. Also, do not water it immediately after potting it. It needs to be placed in a cool and ventilated place for 3-5 days before watering.
