Is it harmful to grow gardenia at home?

Gardenia itself is not toxic , and can make the air fresher. It is also highly ornamental and can be used as an embellishment to increase the vitality of the room. At the same time, gardenia can be placed indoors , and it can also emit a fragrance that makes people feel relaxed and happy. It is also more resistant to some harmful gases.

How to grow gardenia at home

1. Lighting

It needs sufficient light to grow. If there is not enough light, it may grow too tall. It can be given full sun at ordinary times. Gardenia is suitable for growing in an environment of 20-28℃.

2. Watering

Watering should be carried out according to the condition of the flower soil. If the soil is not dry yet, you can stop watering. If the soil starts to dry, you can water it.

3. Use soil

Gardenia prefers slightly acidic soil with good air permeability, high nutrient content and pH between 5-6. Mix peat soil and leaf mold in a 1:1 ratio to make it the soil. If the pH of the soil is too high, add a few drops of vinegar to the water when watering and pour it into the soil.

4. Fertilization

Stop fertilizing after October and during the flowering period. From April to October, topdress once a month except during the flowering period. Spray potassium dihydrogen phosphate once a week starting from April until most branches of the whole gardenia have flower buds. After the buds appear, water the roots with potassium dihydrogen phosphate twice to enhance the plant's stress resistance and promote large and fragrant flowers. However, stop fertilizing as soon as the flower buds crack and turn white.

5. Pruning

During the growth period of gardenia, removing the newly sprouted buds or flower buds is called bud removal; cutting off branches that appear in inappropriate positions on the trunk is called tiller removal. Bud removal and tiller removal can reduce the loss of nutrients in the plant and improve the plant's light, water and fertilizer conditions.
