How to water tomatoes? Watering principles and correct methods

Tomato Watering Overview

The specific time for watering tomatoes should be in the morning or in the spring. The temperature is too high at noon and the light is too strong, which is not conducive to absorption.

How to judge whether to water the tomatoes: When the tomato leaves droop, water them in time. If the leaves are large and thin, pay attention to water control.

How often should you water: If it is in the flowering stage, water less frequently, usually once every 10 days, and water in small amounts; if it is in the fruiting period when the fruit begins to swell, water more frequently, water thoroughly each time, and water once a week.

Should you water thoroughly: During the peak growth period of tomatoes, you usually need to water them thoroughly, which means keeping the soil slightly moist.

The correct way to water tomatoes

Due to the different growth periods of tomatoes, the appropriate watering frequency and watering time should be mastered. Generally, in severe winter when the temperature in the greenhouse and the ground temperature are relatively low, the amount of watering should be small and the interval time should be long. Do not flood with water to prevent the tomato roots from rotting due to low temperature and high humidity.

What kind of water is best for watering: It is best to water tomatoes with well water. If you use tap water for potted plants, it is recommended to dry them in the sun for a while before using them, otherwise the chlorine will be too strong over time.

Watering should be appropriate: when tomatoes are just planted, water them every two to three days, a little at a time. After 15 days, when the tomato seedlings grow to half the length of your palm, water them once a day and a half, about 30 ml each time.

Watering method and skills: If you use dry soil to repot, you need to water it once after repotting to help it take root, and water the soil thoroughly. When planting tomatoes in winter, you must reduce the amount of water in the home or in the soil, and water the tomato seedlings when the weather is clear. After a period of time, stop watering, and wait until the first ear of large fruits reaches 2 cm in diameter, and then water the third ear when it starts to bloom.

Tomato watering precautions

Note that after watering the tomatoes, you should ventilate them frequently or hoe them so that the water can evaporate faster, be absorbed, and avoid root rot.
