Soilless cultivation method of strawberry

Soilless cultivation method of strawberry

1. Preparation of cultivation facilities

Soilless strawberry cultivation depends on the growth of cultivation troughs, which are divided into down-dug cultivation troughs and high-bed cultivation troughs. For a down-dug cultivation trough, generally a walkway about 70 cm wide is left at the base of the rear wall of the greenhouse, and then the cultivation trough is dug in the north-south direction, with a width of 50 cm and a depth of about 25 to 30 cm. The length is determined by the overall span of the greenhouse. Leave a distance of 40 centimeters between the cultivation troughs and lay a layer of plastic film on the trough walls. Raised bed cultivation troughs are generally built upwards with bricks.

2. Preparation for Planting

Before planting, you need to select suitable varieties. Generally, you can choose Hongyan, Zhangji, Sweet Charlie, etc. In areas with high altitudes and lower temperatures, you can choose the varieties Kinugan and Fengxiang. After selecting the variety, three days before planting, you should do a good job of pest and disease control and spray some pesticides on the strawberry seedlings to reduce pest and disease problems after planting. After sterilization, you need to water it once to prevent damage to the roots of the seedlings when transplanting. Then when digging up the seedlings, they should be graded according to their size, and then planted in different sheds.

The time for planting can generally be chosen around September each year, so that it can be sold off-season when it goes on the market in January of the following year.

3. Planting method

Before planting, water the cultivation medium thoroughly to ensure that the medium is moist. When transplanting, avoid sunny weather and try to do it on cloudy days or in the evening. Also, try to choose strong seedlings with well-developed and healthy root systems. Only three new leaves need to be retained on each seedling, and the roots should also be properly pruned. When officially planting, two rows can be planted in each cultivation trough, and the row spacing should be kept between thirty and thirty-five centimeters. Each seedling should be eight to ten centimeters apart, and the depth only needs to be basically level with the cultivation surface or slightly higher. After planting, watering with an appropriate amount will help the seedlings to grow.

4. Water and fertilizer management

During the growing period of strawberries, pay attention to keeping the substrate moist, and watering can be done by drip irrigation under the film. Then, you can apply an appropriate amount of farmyard manure and add some potassium fertilizer after each harvest of the main flower spike to increase the sugar content of the fruit.
