When is the best time to sow mint seeds?

Mint seed sowing time

The sowing time of mint seeds depends on the climatic conditions in various places. Generally, it is sown in March to June or in September each year. Guangdong, Hainan and other provinces can be sown at any time. Jiangsu and Zhejiang regions usually sow around Qingming Festival. The southwestern region can sow during the rainy season. Mint can be planted once and can be harvested continuously for 2 to 3 years.

Mint seed planting method and steps

1. Germination treatment

Germination treatment is an important step in the mint seed planting method. First, you can soak good quality mint seeds in 40-degree warm water for about 5 hours, then place the soaked seeds in a high temperature place to germinate. After covering them with a layer of wet cloth, spray water every day to keep them moist. They will turn white in about 20 days.

2. Soil preparation

Before sowing, prepare a small clay pot, put loose, fertile and breathable sand in it, disinfect it, then pour an appropriate amount of water on it, loosen the soil, and keep the soil in the best soft and moist state.

3. Planting and sowing

Place the germinated seedlings in the soil, control the planting density, keep it at about 20 cm, cover them with a 2-3 cm layer of fine soil after planting, pour a small amount of water, keep it moist at all times, and place it in a better place.

4. Post-planting management

When planting mint, the soil should be kept moist. Water it once every 15 days during the seedling period, apply a small amount of urea solution every month, and water it once after each fertilization. Weeding should be carried out in the middle of the growth period or irregularly to reduce nutrient consumption.
