How to prune fuchsia

How to prune fuchsia

When to prune fuchsia

When pruning fuchsia, it is necessary to prune it according to different periods. It is generally best to prune it before the end of the dormant period in combination with potting.

When pruning the fuchsia, two symmetrical branches should be cut at the top. During the seedling stage, the top of the trunk should be removed when the seedling grows to 40 cm, and the long branches should be cut short to maintain a beautiful plant shape. During the flowering period, the top of the flower branches should be removed when they grow to a certain length. After the flowers, heavy pruning can be adopted, and all long branches can be cut short to reduce nutrient consumption and facilitate safe summering.

Fuchsia pruning tips

In the north, pruning of fuchsia should be stopped in late March in spring. When the flower branches grow to a certain length, they should be topped. When flowering, the twigs and leaves in the center of the plant should be cut off at any time to avoid nutrient consumption and facilitate ventilation and light transmission.

Pruning makes growth faster: When the young plant of Fuchsia grows to about 30 cm, the main branches should be cut off, and the cross branches and inner branches should be removed to encourage new branches to sprout.

Notes on pruning fuchsia

Fuchsia needs to be pruned to grow new branches sideways so that it can bloom more. Pinching is the most common method, and it is usually done when the seedlings grow to about 10 cm.
