How to trim Syngonium

How to trim Syngonium

When is the best time to prune Syngonium

Syngonium needs proper pruning in different growth stages to be beneficial to the growth of the plant. It is mainly divided into pruning in the young sprout stage, pruning in the growth stage, pruning in the bud removal stage, and pruning in the dormant stage.

How to prune the branches and leaves of Syngonium

1. Pruning during the bud stage

Pruning during the young bud stage mainly involves picking the top of the branches to inhibit the growth rate of the branches, breaking the top of the main stem by hand, destroying the apical dominance, and promoting the germination of new buds.

2. Pruning during the growing season

In an environment with sufficient fertilizer and water, Syngonium grows rapidly. At this time, it should be pruned in time, and all branches that do not conform to the shape should be cut off to maintain the beautiful shape of the plant and concentrate the nutrients in the branches. The other branches can then be combed and pruned, with thick branches pruned heavily and weak branches pruned lightly.

3. Bud removal and pruning

When the growth is vigorous, appropriate bud removal treatment should be carried out, mainly to cut off the new buds sprouting from the branches, and some overlapping branches and buds should also be cut off in time to avoid consuming nutrients, affecting the plant's light transmittance and affecting the plant's growth and development.

4. Pruning during dormancy

Syngonium also needs proper pruning during its dormant period, generally earlier rather than later. At this time, all the dead leaves and branches should be cut off, and the perennial stems and leaves should be shortened. It is best to use light pruning to promote the germination of new buds.

Notes on pruning Syngonium

This plant belongs to the Araceae family. Its juice contains certain toxicity. Be careful when pruning and take protective measures to avoid the juice splashing into the eyes or skin and causing skin discomfort. Clean your hands in time after pruning.
