Best time to plant blueberry trees

Blueberry trees are best planted in spring, March to April. Winter planting is difficult to manage, so 2-3 year old seedlings are generally chosen for easier survival. The best time to plant blueberry seeds is in autumn, when the temperature is suitable and the survival rate is high. The phenological period of blueberry trees in the north is about 10 days later than in the south. They usually bloom in late May or early June and mature in late July.

How to Plant Blueberry Trees

1. Site selection: The land for planting blueberries should be flat. If the slope is large, it can be terraced. The width should be more than 2 meters, with a high content of organic matter, moderate pH (pH 3.8-5.5), good drainage and good overall lighting in the orchard.

2. Land preparation: First, remove the remaining debris on the surface, then dig a planting hole at the planting location, mix pine bark and peat together, and backfill the excavated soil. It should be noted that the pH of the soil must meet the growth requirements of blueberries. If the acidity is too high or too low, the pH of the land needs to be improved.

3. Seed selection: When establishing a blueberry garden, you should choose several varieties. This is mainly because cross-pollination plays a positive role in improving fruit quality and yield. In some extremely cold areas, you can choose some cold-resistant varieties. The cold resistance here refers to minus 40 degrees Celsius.

4. Planting: First, select seedlings with well-developed roots, thick branches and fast growth. Second, the size of the planting pit does not need to be too large, it should be appropriate for the roots of the seedlings to spread out. When planting, ensure that the roots and soil are well combined.

5. Covering: After planting, you can cover the surface with some bark, leaves and other organic matter, which can mainly regulate soil temperature and moisture and promote root growth. The thickness can reach 5-10 cm.

Notes on blueberry tree planting and management

1. Light: Blueberry trees like to grow in an environment with good light, such as sunny places, so that they can fully absorb sunlight and promote the growth of green branches and leaves. When the light is strong in summer and early autumn, appropriate shade should be provided to avoid long-term exposure to the sun to avoid the phenomenon of withering branches and leaves.

2. Temperature: Blueberry trees like to grow in a warm environment, the most suitable growth temperature is 10-25 degrees, and they are not cold-resistant. Therefore, when cultivating in winter, be careful not to let the temperature drop below 0 degrees, and place it in a sunny place to avoid frost damage.

3. Watering: Blueberry trees like to grow in fertile soil, so the general cultivation should keep the pot soil fertile. The weather is colder in winter and the water evaporates more slowly, so it is usually once a week. Be careful not to overwater each time. Overwatering is different from indoors.

4. Fertilization: Apply nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer once every half a month during the growth process, and spray potassium dihydrogen phosphate foliar fertilizer at the same time, which can promote the full absorption and growth of Chinese cabbage, and is conducive to the luxuriant branches and leaves and strong growth. When applying fertilizer, pay attention to the appropriate amount, and do not apply concentrated fertilizer or raw fertilizer to avoid root burn.
