How to sow cactus

How to sow cactus

Sowing time

The best time to sow cactus is from May to June or from September to October, and the room temperature should be 20-30℃.

Sowing pot soil

For sowing, you should choose a shallow clay pot and use river sand, broken bricks and other sowing media.

Sowing seeds

The seeds should be placed in water and soaked for 2-3 days to allow them to fully absorb water.

Heat preservation and moisturizing

Soak the bottom of the pot with water. Then seal the whole plant with plastic film and place it at room temperature around 25℃. It will germinate in 4 weeks.

Seedling Shade

During the seedling period, it needs to be placed in the sun with appropriate shade, and watering should be done using the infiltration method or a sprayer.

Sowing temperature

The room temperature of the cactus should not be lower than 15℃ after winter, otherwise the young bulb will become frozen and gradually rot.

Seeding and transplanting

Transplantation should be carried out according to the size of the seedlings. Generally, those sown in late autumn can be transplanted the following year. They will have more or less growth difficulties due to lack of nutrition. When transplanted into small pots, normal management can be resumed.

In addition, the cactus needs to be repotted after it grows up. When repotting, pay attention to the following two points:

How to repot

Cactus repotting should be done in early spring. It is best to choose sandy loam with good drainage, air permeability and lime.

How to disinfect

Remove the cactus from the pot, cut off the rotten roots and abnormally growing roots, sprinkle sulfur powder on the bed, and plant it in a ventilated place for 3-4 days.
