Zizania latifolia is also called Gushou, Diaohu, Gaogua, Gugua, Jiaogua, Jiaosun, Gaosun, Gaoba, and Shuisun. It is an autumn vegetable. It matures in September and October and is put on the market for sale from October to December. The main producing areas are Anhui, Hebei, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Hunan and other provinces.

What does wild rice look like?

The height of the water chestnut plant varies from 1 to 2 meters. The stem of the plant is tall and upright, the leaves are flat and wide, and can reach 50 cm in length. The leaf sheaths are thick, the ligules are membranous, and there are large cone-shaped inflorescences. The caryopsis is cylindrical.

How to cook wild rice stem

There are many ways to eat water bamboo. It can be made into braised water bamboo, steamed green beans with water bamboo, stir-fried water bamboo, scrambled eggs with water bamboo shreds, vegetarian three-fresh dish, fish-flavored water bamboo shredded pork, etc.

1. Stir-fried wild rice stem

Clean and cut the water bamboo into shreds, blanch it in boiling water, heat the pan, add oil, garlic and onion and stir-fry until fragrant, then add the water bamboo, and finally add chili pepper, oyster sauce and light soy sauce to season.

2. Braised wild rice stem

Wash the water bamboo and cut into thick slices. Add oil to the pot and put the water bamboo into it. Stir-fry until the surface is slightly yellow. Then add soy sauce, oyster sauce and salt and simmer for a while. Remove from the pot after the sauce is absorbed.
