Key points for the maintenance of Tradescantia in four seasons

Key points for the maintenance of Tradescantia in four seasons

Spring and summer maintenance

Spring maintenance

Spring is the peak growth season for Tradescantia, so it is necessary to ensure sufficient water and fertilizer. Watering should be done more frequently, and try to schedule it in the morning when the temperature is lower. Fertilization should be applied thinly and frequently. Try to apply sufficient base fertilizer to the Tradescantia before transplanting the plants, and apply thin liquid fertilizer once every half a month.

Tradescantia can be propagated by cuttings in March to April in spring.

Summer maintenance

Tradescantia should avoid strong sunlight. In summer, it needs to be placed in semi-shade or provided with 70% shade. Pay attention to ventilation and spray the Tradescantia plants 2 to 3 times a day to help cool them down.

In summer, you can water Tradescantia more often, but it is best to water it in the morning or evening when the temperature is low.

Autumn and winter maintenance

Autumn maintenance

Autumn is also the peak growth period for Tradescantia. In autumn, you can hang the pot of Tradescantia in the air of the balcony or under the eaves where it is not exposed to direct sunlight at noon, and water it appropriately to keep the soil in the pot moist.

Tradescantia is best propagated in autumn. The advantage of autumn propagation is that it is mainly propagated by cuttings.

Winter maintenance

The optimal growth temperature for Tradescantia is between 18℃ and 30℃. It avoids cold and frost, so the temperature in winter cannot be too low, and the overwintering temperature needs to be kept above 10℃. You can move the Tradescantia to a bright place indoors and keep the room temperature at around 10℃. If it is outdoors, you can wrap it with film to overwinter, but you should lift the film frequently to allow the plant to breathe.

In winter, Tradescantia goes dormant, so it is important to control fertilizer and water. Watering is generally done at noon on sunny days when the temperature is higher, and fertilization should be stopped.
