Purple sweet potatoes prefer a warm growing environment. The suitable growth temperature for stems and leaves is 18 to 25 degrees. If the temperature is lower than 15 degrees, they will stop growing. The most suitable growth temperature for tubers is 22 to 24 degrees. They will stop expanding when the temperature is lower than 20 degrees.

Purple sweet potato is a short-day crop that requires sufficient and high-intensity sunlight. Purple sweet potato prefers a humid environment, and the suitable soil moisture during the growth period is 60% to 80% of the maximum field water holding capacity.

Purple sweet potato seedlings are suitable for planting in well-drained, loose sandy or gravel soil. It is best not to plant them in paddy fields, as this is not conducive to the growth of purple sweet potatoes, will affect their shape, and will also reduce their quality.

Purple sweet potatoes are distributed in both the north and south of China, and are most suitable for planting in black soil, sandy loam, and yellow mud. They are distributed in Hunan and Hubei regions, Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan regions in the southwest, as well as Shandong and Shaanxi regions.

Purple sweet potatoes are usually planted in early spring in February. When the temperature stabilizes at around 15 degrees, seedlings can be grown and they can be harvested in mid-to-late October.

Normally, the yield of purple sweet potatoes per mu is 3,000-4,000 jin. Calculated at two yuan per jin, the income is about 7,000 yuan. The monthly rent per mu is calculated at 100 yuan, and the fertilizer is calculated at 400 yuan. If labor costs are not calculated, the net income per mu can reach about 6,000 yuan, which can be said to be a considerable income.
