Amomum villosum prefers a warm and humid environment, is not resistant to high temperatures, is not cold resistant, is afraid of heat and frost. Amomum villosum likes to grow in areas with fertile soil and moderate sunlight, so when we choose a planting site, we must choose a place with sufficient water, fertile soil and relatively shaded.

The average annual temperature for the growth of Amomum villosum is 15 to 20 degrees. When the absolute low temperature is 1 degree, there will be no frost damage. It is suitable for growing in an environment with sparse trees (light transmittance is about 40%). It generally grows in the moist and well-drained valley slopes under forests at an altitude of 1000-2000 meters or by streams. It is suitable for growing in sandy loam rich in humus.

Amomum villosum grows in tropical and subtropical humid and shady broad-leaved forests. It is suitable for growing in moist, humus-rich, well-drained, loose and fertile slightly acidic sandy loam. It grows poorly in poor and sticky land and waterlogged low-lying areas.

Tsaoko is mainly distributed in Yunnan, and is grown in Honghe, Wenshan, Xishuangbanna, Dehong, Baoshan, Simao, Lincang and other places. Jinping Miao and Yao Autonomous County (known as the "Hometown of Green Fruit") produces the most.

Tsaoko planting time

Tsaoko is usually sown in September-October or in February-March of the second year. The seedling raising time of Tsaoko is usually in autumn and winter every year. If managed properly, it will start to germinate after 30 days and the seedlings will be fully grown in about 60 days.

Amomum villosum has high edible and medicinal value. The fruit has the effects of drying dampness and strengthening the spleen, removing phlegm and stopping malaria. It can treat abdominal distension, nausea and vomiting, food accumulation malaria and other diseases. It is a formula for Chinese patent medicines, such as Tougu Soushoufeng Pills, Yishen Pills, Kaiyu Shugan Pills, Kuanxiong Lifei Pills, Jiebai Pills, etc. It can also be used as a seasoning and spice. Aromatic oil can be extracted from the whole plant.
