Schisandra chinensis planting conditions and climate requirements

Schisandra chinensis planting conditions

Schisandra is generally distributed in areas with an altitude of 1200 to 1700 meters, and is commonly found in valleys, streams, and hillsides. Wild varieties grow in mixed woods, forest edges, or bushes in ravines. They are suitable for planting in loose, fertile, humus-rich, slightly acidic soils, and have poor drought tolerance.

Schisandra Planting Climate

Schisandra prefers a warm growing environment and is suitable for large-scale cultivation in areas with a frost-free period of more than 120 days, an annual active accumulated temperature of ≥10℃, more than 2300 degrees, and an annual precipitation of 600 to 700 mm.

Schisandra chinensis planting area

Schisandra grows best in fertile, loose, well-drained soil with appropriate moisture. Schisandra is widely distributed in China and is produced in Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Inner Mongolia, Hebei, Shanxi, Ningxia, Gansu, Shandong, and is also distributed in North Korea and Japan.

Schisandra chinensis planting time

Schisandra is usually sown in spring, in April in the south, and in the north where the temperature is lower, so the sowing time can be later, in mid-May.

Benefits of Schisandra chinensis Planting

The Schisandra tree is not tall, but it produces a lot of fruits, which are easy to pick when ripe. Under normal circumstances, Schisandra will start to bear fruit in the second year after planting, and the fruiting period can last for about 6 years. The amount of fruit will decrease after 8 years.

The yield of Schisandra chinensis per mu of land is more than 1,800 catties. If it is carefully maintained and the soil is suitable, the yield can reach more than 2,600 catties in some places. After harvesting, it can be made into dried fruit. The yield of dried fruit per mu of land fluctuates around 400 catties, and can reach more than 500 catties in some areas.
