How long is the growth cycle of pomegranate?

Introduction to Pomegranate Growth

Pomegranate grows on sandy loam. Because the soil is loose, breathable and has active microorganisms, the root system is well developed, the plants are strong, with deep roots and lush leaves, a long flowering period and abundant fruits.

Pomegranate is one of the fruits that we often eat in our daily life. It is cultivated in many regions of my country. The main producing areas are Lintong, Shaanxi, Zaozhuang, Shandong, Huili, Sichuan, and Mengzi, Yunnan. Among them, Huili, Sichuan is the hometown of pomegranate in my country.

Pomegranate growth cycle

Pomegranate likes plenty of sunlight and has a certain degree of cold resistance. It grows well in moist and fertile calcareous soil and has a certain degree of drought resistance. Its flowering period is from May to July.

The growth process of the pomegranate tree is as follows: sprouting in early April, blooming in June, fruit development in July and August, fruit ripening in mid-to-late September, leaf shedding in early November, and dormancy from late November to mid-March of the following year.

Pomegranate growth rate

The growth and development process of a pomegranate tree in a year is the budding period, new shoot growth and bud appearance period, flowering period, fruit development and flower bud differentiation period, and dormancy period.

It usually takes 3 to 10 years for a seed-growing pomegranate tree to bloom and bear fruit. It can bear fruit continuously for 50 to 60 years. After that, it will enter the aging period, and the fruit-bearing period can still be maintained for 20 to 30 years, so its lifespan can be as long as a hundred years, but the economic cultivation period is only 70 to 80 years.

Pomegranate growth cycle management

56 pomegranate trees can be planted in one acre of land, and 42 trees can be planted in one acre of fertile land. Under normal circumstances, the yield of pomegranate trees per acre during the peak fruit-bearing period is about 4,000 kilograms, and the highest can reach about 5,000 kilograms.

Temperature management : The suitable growth temperature of pomegranate trees is between 15-20℃, and the winter temperature should not be lower than -18℃, otherwise it will easily be frostbite.

Fertilization management : In spring, pomegranate trees are mainly fertilized with nitrogen fertilizer. In summer, nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, boron, etc. are used in combination. In autumn, foliar fertilizer is mainly used. Foliar fertilizer can be applied again after harvesting, and deep plowing and fertilization are carried out at the same time. The base fertilizer is mainly organic fertilizer.
