How long is the growth cycle of bamboo shoots?

Introduction to Bamboo Shoot Growth

Chinese bamboo shoots are mainly distributed in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and are grown in Zunyi, Guizhou, Jiangxi, southern Anhui, Zhejiang, Sichuan, Guangxi, Fujian, Taiwan and other places.

Bamboo shoot growth cycle

Bamboo shoots are suitable for planting in tropical and subtropical areas. They prefer warm environments and are not resistant to low temperatures. The most suitable temperature is an annual average of 16 to 17 degrees, with an average temperature below 30 degrees Celsius in summer and around 4 degrees Celsius in winter. They are widely planted in southern China and are suitable for planting in deep, loose, fertile, well-drained and well-ventilated soil.

Bamboo shoots themselves grow rapidly and require a long time. Early ones need 50-60 days to emerge, and late ones need 40 to 50 days. Some varieties with smaller growth rates require a shorter time, only 25 days.

Bamboo shoot growth rate

The growth of bamboo shoots mainly goes through periods of vigorous underground growth and vigorous above-ground growth, and its growth rate is still very fast.

Bamboo shoot growth cycle management

The yield of bamboo shoots per mu can generally reach about 5,000 kilograms, but the yield will also vary depending on the variety and planting location.

Temperature management: The optimum temperature for bamboo shoots growth is an annual average of 16 to 17 degrees. It is not resistant to low temperatures and the winter temperature needs to be above 4 degrees.

Fertilization management: When planting bamboo shoots, you can add base fertilizer in the shallow trench and cover the soil to make it firm. Appropriate topdressing is needed during the growth period. You can apply quick-acting fertilizer in January, urea in May-June, and organic fertilizers such as manure, soil fertilizer, and garbage fertilizer in August-September.
