Can Ginkgo be potted?

Ginkgo can be potted. Before planting, you need to choose a suitable flowerpot, as well as fertile and loose soil, and place it in a location with sufficient light for maintenance. This tree can be planted in pots or in the ground.

Potted ginkgo has deep roots, so it needs to be planted in a large and deep pot, but the specific size still needs to be determined according to the size of the plant's root system. Potted plants are more difficult to bear fruit, and some even take more than 20 years to bear fruit.

Ginkgo potted cultivation method

1. Pot soil

Potted ginkgo is a deep-rooted plant that prefers loose, moist and fertile soil. Sandy soil should be used as the main soil for planting, and fertile soil is best.

2. Pruning

The main pruning of ginkgo is winter pruning, which is usually carried out in early winter. All the self-inflicted overgrown branches, dead branches, and overly long branches need to be cut off to keep the tree shape in a heart shape, which is more conducive to the growth of the plant.

3. Fertilization

Ginkgo needs sufficient nutrients to grow, and appropriate organic fertilizer or farmyard manure needs to be applied during maintenance. The specific time can be selected in March-April. Compound fertilizer can be used in spring and urea can be used in summer.

4. Moisture

Ginkgo likes a humid growing environment and has high requirements for water. The soil must remain moist during the growth period, but there should be no accumulation of water. During the dormant period, the water can be reduced or even stopped.

5. Temperature

Ginkgo trees mostly grow in temperate and subtropical regions. The most suitable growth temperature is 18-22℃. The plant has a certain degree of cold resistance, and the lowest cold resistance temperature is -20℃. It generally will not be frozen to death.
