Fig Introduction

Fig is a plant of the genus Ficus in the Moraceae family, mainly distributed in tropical and temperate regions. It is also called Ari, Ayi, Yingri fruit, Udumbara, honey fruit, Wenxian fruit, milk fruit, and Pinxian fruit.

There are more than 800 varieties of figs, most of which are evergreen varieties. Those grown in temperate regions are deciduous varieties. Common varieties include Yellow Fruit No. 1, Green Fruit No. 1, etc.

Fig Growing Conditions

Figs are widely adaptable to the environment, easy to cultivate, have high economic benefits, and bear fruit multiple times a year. They can grow and bear fruit normally in areas with an average annual temperature above 13 degrees, a minimum winter temperature above minus 18 degrees, and an annual rainfall of more than 400 mm. They are widely adaptable to soil and can be grown in clay, sandy loam, sandy soil, acidic and alkaline soils.

Figs were originally distributed along the Mediterranean coast and were later introduced to China. They are now widely grown in Xinjiang, Shandong, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong, Shaanxi, Sichuan and other places in China.

Figs are suitable for planting in spring and autumn. There is plenty of sunshine in these two seasons but the light is not too strong. The temperature is suitable for the growth of this type of plant. The maintenance after planting is also very simple. It has strong vitality and is easier to survive.

Benefits of Fig Planting

Figs can produce about 20 fruits on each plant, and 100 trees can be planted per acre. During the peak season, the yield per acre is more than 3,000 kilograms. Based on the market price of 15 to 20 yuan per kilogram, the net profit per acre is 30,000 to 40,000 yuan.
