When to plant violets

When to plant violets

When to sow

The time for sowing violets is generally from early August to early October, and it may also be adjusted according to the time of using the flowers. If sowing in February in the greenhouse, it will bloom in May; if sowing in March, it will bloom in June, and so on. However, if sowing in July, it will have to wait until February to March of the following year to bloom in the greenhouse. The seeds should not be planted too densely, otherwise the seedlings will be susceptible to damping-off disease. If cultivated as a biennial, it can be sown in pots in September.

Precautions

Autumn sowing time

It cannot be too late, as sowing too late will affect the growth, wintering, quantity and quality of flowering of the plants.

Temperature requirements

It likes light, needs full sunlight, and the temperature should be controlled between 10℃-30℃. The temperature during winter should not be lower than 5℃.

Watering requirements

When sowing, the potting soil should be watered sufficiently. Do not water directly after sowing. If the soil becomes dry and white, you can spray it with a spray bottle or use the "immersion pot method" to keep the soil moist. Water thoroughly after planting. In the early stage of growth, water should be controlled to keep the seedlings stunted, and the soil should be kept slightly moist and dry. Generally, water should be applied once every 3 to 4 days. The lower the temperature, the less watering is needed. When the ambient temperature rises, increase the amount of watering.

Fertilization requirements

Sufficient base fertilizer should be applied during planting, and appropriate fertilizer should be applied in the early stage depending on the growth of the plant. Do not apply too much fertilizer at one time, but apply thin fertilizer frequently, otherwise it will easily cause the plant to grow too tall. When the plant is forming buds, apply 0.1%-0.2% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution once a week.

Lighting and ventilation

If light and ventilation are insufficient, the plant is susceptible to diseases and insect pests.
