How to save cucumber seeds

45 to 50 days after the cucumber blooms, the peel turns yellow-white or yellow-brown, sometimes with cracks, and can be harvested at this time. The harvested seed melons can be left for 7 days to ripen and increase the thousand-grain weight of the seeds. After the melons are cut open and the seeds are taken out, they need to go through a period of fermentation, generally 3-6 days at 15 to 20 degrees. Cucumber seeds can be stored for 3 years, and their germination rate is generally reduced by about 30%.

How to collect cucumber seeds

Cucumber is a monoecious plant and a cross-pollinated crop. It is easy to hybridize naturally, then bloom and bear fruit. When the fruit is ripe, the seeds will also mature and can be picked in time.

Cucumber seed storage

Cucumbers can be harvested in time after they are ripe and piled in a cool place away from rain. After about seven or eight days, when the cucumber skin turns all orange, you can wash the seeds, dry them in a well-ventilated place, then put them into cloth bags and store them in a low temperature and dry place.

Cucumber seeds planting

Cucumbers prefer a warm growing environment and are generally planted in April and May. The soil temperature at 0-10 cm needs to be above 12 degrees. Its growth cycle is relatively long and requires careful maintenance.

Cucumbers are suitable for planting in loose, fertile, well-drained land that has not been planted with cucumbers for 2-3 years. Renovate the soil in advance, apply sufficient base fertilizer, disinfect, prevent and control diseases and insect pests, and increase the germination rate. Soak the seeds in 30-degree warm water for 4-6 hours in advance, then place them in an environment of 28-30 degrees to germinate, and sow them after they turn white.
