Blueberry cutting propagation methods and precautions

Blueberry cutting time

Blueberry is a plant of the Ericaceae family, Vaccinium genus. It is a blue berry and also a perennial shrub small berry fruit tree. The color of the fruit is blue, so it is called blueberry.

Blueberries can be propagated by hardwood cuttings in early spring. The specific time needs to be determined according to the temperature of the planting site. It is slightly earlier in the south and slightly later in the north. Zhejiang, Sichuan, Fujian, Hunan, Anhui and other places usually complete it before the end of February, while Henan and Shaanxi are suitable for February to March.

Blueberry cutting method

1. Blueberries are suitable for planting in loose, well-drained sandy loam. The soil particles are fine and uniform, with particles of 0.15-0.5 mm accounting for about 65%. Vermiculite and sand also have good results. The site should be located in a sunny place that is sheltered from the wind. If conditions permit, you can choose to grow cuttings in a greenhouse or plastic shed.

2. Before blueberry cuttings, the soil of the seedbed must be disinfected. Potassium permanganate solution or formalin solution can be used for disinfection and sterilization. The soil should also be sprayed wet. After all the spraying, pile it up and cover it with a film for 7 days. Cover it and turn the soil again. Spread it out for 2-3 days before using for cuttings.

3. Select strong, disease-free blueberry branches and plant them on the seedbed with a spacing of 10 cm between plants and 15 cm between rows. Insert them vertically into the soil. If the branches are long, insert them diagonally into the soil at a depth of about 2/3 of the branches. The top buds should be slightly exposed above the ground. Compact the soil and then spray water.

Notes on Blueberry Cuttings

The management measures after blueberry cuttings are the key to the rooting and survival of the cuttings. The central task of management is to coordinate the relationship between factors such as water, air, temperature, humidity and light, among which the adjustment of water is the most important.
