Strawberry planting methods and precautions

Strawberry planting methods and precautions

When to plant strawberries

Strawberries can be sown and raised in spring, or they can be harvested in May or June when the fruits are ripe. Well-developed and fully mature fruits can be harvested for seed collection. Cover with plastic film after sowing and seedlings will emerge in about 10 days.

How to grow strawberries

When the strawberries are ripe, use tools to scrape off the peel and seeds, rub them in water, remove the peel attached to the seeds and plant them. You can also propagate them by division, choosing healthy, disease- and pest-free runner seedlings for propagation.

Strawberry planting steps

1. First of all, before planting strawberries, you need to prepare suitable flower pots. The pot does not need to be too large, because it is a herbaceous plant and does not need too much soil to grow. Generally, a flower pot with a diameter of about 30 cm will be enough.

2. Next, prepare suitable soil. Strawberries prefer fertile, loose, well-drained soil and are not tolerant to barrenness, so it is best to use black or brown soil rich in humus for planting.

3. Sow the strawberry seeds in the flowerpot, cover them with some wood ash, water them thoroughly once, and then water them regularly every day to wait for them to germinate.

Strawberry maintenance and management matters

1. Adequate lighting

Strawberries like an environment with plenty of sunlight. When planting them, you should choose a place with plenty of sunlight where they can receive sufficient light. Providing such an environment is conducive to their growth, but they are not resistant to direct sunlight and need to take shading measures.

2. Moist soil

The roots of strawberries are not drought-tolerant and prefer a humid environment. When planting, water them frequently to keep the soil moist. Soil containing higher moisture content is more conducive to the formation of young roots and growth, but water accumulation should not occur, otherwise the roots will rot.

3. Appropriate fertilization

Strawberry is a fertilizer-loving plant. Only by providing sufficient nutrients can it grow stronger. When fertilizing, be sure to apply thin fertilizers frequently. Do not apply too much, and the concentration cannot be too high, which will cause seedling burn. The organic fertilizer must be fully decomposed.
