Can I use vinegar to water gardenia?

Can I use vinegar to water gardenia?

1. Reasons

① Acidic

As for why this plant can be watered with vinegar, the most fundamental reason is that it is suitable for growing in slightly acidic flower soil. Vinegar contains acetic acid, and using it to water the flower soil can maintain the pH level of 4.0-6.5, which is the most preferred by these flowers. This will not only make it grow faster, but also make it grow healthier.

②Nutrients

In addition to being able to acidify the flower soil, another important reason is that it contains many nutrients. Specifically, vinegar contains a small amount of Fe, Ca and other elements, which can help the formation of chlorophyll, increase the efficiency of photosynthesis, and improve the nutrient accumulation efficiency of the plant, so using vinegar to water it can make it grow better.

2. Notes

① Dilution

This is a very important point, please do not ignore it. When watering it with vinegar, be sure to dilute it in advance, otherwise the high concentration of vinegar is likely to cause damage to its roots. We generally need to dilute the vinegar to more than 100 times, and it is better to be dilute rather than concentrated.

②Frequency

When watering the plant with vinegar, you need to pay attention to the frequency. Do not water it every day. Generally, watering it once every seven days is sufficient. If the plant shows adverse phenomena such as yellowing or wilting leaves, you can increase the frequency of watering as appropriate, but not more than once every three days.

③No salt

In order to make the taste of vinegar more in line with everyone's taste, many manufacturers now add some NaCl, which is what we call table salt, to vinegar. This may not be a problem for us, but it is not good for the plants. Once you use this vinegar containing NaCl to water the flowers, these sodium ions will dissolve in the moisture in the flower soil and change the osmotic pressure. This kind of flower uses osmotic pressure to absorb water and some nutrients. Once the osmotic pressure changes, they will not be able to absorb these substances normally, thus affecting the development of the plant.
