When is the best time to sow oranges?

Orange planting time

Oranges are not cold-resistant or drought-resistant. The temperature determines the planting time. Neither summer nor winter is suitable for planting. If planted at this time, it will affect the germination rate, resulting in reduced yields, reduced quality of oranges, and shortened edible years. Therefore, the most suitable sowing time for oranges is March-April in spring and September-October in autumn.

Orange sowing method

1. Seed selection: Before sowing oranges, you need to select full, complete seeds without any damage, breakage, or discoloration. You also need to clean the seeds in water to remove the pulp and residue on the surface, which will increase the germination rate.

2. Soaking: The seeds need to be germinated. Soak the selected seeds in warm water for 24 hours, then put them in a towel to dry the water, and then soak them in clean water for about 5 days. The water needs to be changed every day, so that the embryo can germinate and take root faster.

3. Sowing: Put the processed seeds into the potting soil. The potting soil should have a certain degree of permeability. Sow the seeds into the soil, compact it, add some rotten wood and pebbles on the surface for filling, and cover the top with a layer of soil. Ensure sufficient light conditions every day, but do not expose it to the sun.

Oranges ripe for harvest

Oranges need 7-8 years of care from planting to peak fruit-bearing period. They are usually harvested in October each year when they mature. The length of planting time will affect the yield. Generally, the yield per mu is 240 kg in the fourth year, 300-400 kg in the fifth year, 700-800 kg in the sixth year, and the peak fruit-bearing period is entered in the seventh year, with an annual yield of 1300-1400 kg.
