How and when to plant okra

Okra planting time

Okra is sown in various parts of China from April to June and harvested from July to October. In North China, it is generally sown from mid-to-late April to May. Okra cannot tolerate low temperature environments and cannot form pods when the temperature is low.

Planting Okra in Spring

Okra can be sown in April in spring. Cover it with 2 cm of soil after sowing. It will germinate one week after sowing, and the germination will be rapid and neat. In June, one healthy okra seedling can be kept in each hole. Apply thin fertilizer every 15 days during the growing period and keep the soil moist. Seeds need to be treated before sowing. Soak the seeds in 30-35 degree warm water for 20-24 hours and germinate at 28-30 degrees.

Okra Planting Method

Okra is suitable for cultivation in spring and summer, but spring is the best time for sowing. The sowing time is generally set from March to April, and it can usually be harvested in late May until the end of October.

1. When sowing, the soil of the nursery bed needs to be improved. You can mix the farmland soil and manure thoroughly, then disinfect it, water it once, and the humidity reaches about 50%.

2. After the seedling bed is prepared, you can sow okra. Put 2-3 seeds in each hole. After sowing, cover it with soil about 4-5 cm.

3. When okra grows 3-4 leaves and is about 10 cm in height, you can leave a strong main body in each hole, pull out all the others, and complete the transplanting work.

4. Before transplanting, you can apply base fertilizer to the soil, then dig planting holes according to a certain plant spacing, and then water it once to make it survive faster. After okra is planted, you need to pay attention to field management, weed in time to reduce nutrient loss, and weed once a week.

5. During the growth period of okra, it is necessary to remove old and dead leaves, and pay attention to ventilation and sunlight. When it grows to a certain height, it is necessary to pinch and top the plant. This can promote the supply of nutrients to the fruit and improve the quality of the fruit.
