When is the right time to sow millet?

Millet sowing time

Millet is a common grain that is grown in every household, but due to different climates in different places, the planting time is different. Millet can be sown in April in spring or in May-June in summer, and can be harvested twice a year.

Millet sowing method

1. Site selection and land preparation: Millet grows best in soft soil with good drainage, deep soil layer, fertility and high terrain. Therefore, when selecting a site, you can choose soft fertile loam or sandy loam for planting. After selecting a site, you need to deep plow the soil, apply some rotted farm manure, and also do a good job of disinfection.

2. Process the seeds: Expose the seeds to the sun for 2-3 days, then put them in warm water at about 20 degrees, add carbendazim and soak for a day. Finally, take them out, cover them with a wet cloth and put them in a cool and ventilated place. They will germinate after a week.

3. Sowing: First, spread a layer of manure on the seedbed, then evenly spread the germinated seeds on the soil, and finally cover with a thin layer of soil, seal the surrounding with a film, and allow the seedlings to germinate.

4. Transplanting: When the height of the millet is about 15 cm, pull it out and sow it in the field. When sowing, plant it with a row spacing of 10 cm and a plant spacing of 15 cm.

Millet ripe harvest

If millet is sown in spring, it can be harvested in mid-September. If it is sown in summer, it can be harvested in mid-October. Its yield will vary depending on the region, variety, sowing time, management measures, sowing method, etc., and is approximately between 500 and 1,300 kilograms.
